Hello there!! Who am I? I'm Bellamie, and this butterfly dude is my sona! I'm an outgoing, go with the flow, sixteen-year-old social butterfly with a lot of dorky interests of various kinds. I make art, and write poetry, and read A LOT. I love music (as most people do :3) specifically a lot of electronic, dance genres, and folk!! So glad you asked!! Bellamie, my sona, is an acmon blue butterfly in honor of a species, the xerces blue, that was declared extinct in the 1940s. People were pushing into this butterflies habitat in San Francisco's local sand dunes, the place the butterflies called home and due to their habitat being destroyed they went extinct. People tend to think most extinctions happen because of hunting, but actually most have similar stories of habitat loss. Of course there are stories of overhunting like with the dodos, or wayyy more complicated stories of extinction like the tazmanian tiger. But there are a lot, A LOT of stories of species who're specialized for a very specific part of the world losing their habitat- and hence their niche in the ecosystem being erased, and dying out. Bellamie is an acmon blue, because acmon blues are a blue butterfly that have the potential of following the same fate as the xerces blue-- if we're not careful. People tend to also ignore invertebrate conservation, so it's a raising awareness thing as well! Anddd I'm also just kinda like a butterfly in some ways to, which is a far less important reason, but it's true.
